Abnormal Mammogram

| . | For a year now I have had this lump on my left breast. It is small and like a mole. You can see it. I have always been told that is nothing to worry about. I just had my annual mammogram and it came back saying that an area on the breast should be reevaluated in 6 months. It said that what they saw usually doesn't get cancerous but that it should be watched. I am nervous now wandering if the the little bump/ mole like thing is something to worry about. Help! |

| mom2threeinAZ | Dear mom2threeinAZ: From what you write, I can't tell if the area on the mammogram and the mole/bump are the same. My guess is that they are unrelated. If the mole/bump is on the outside of the skin, and has not changed, it is likely just a mole. The spot on the mammogram needs clarification. What was seen? calcifications? a density? You might ask for the mammogram report and film. Consider sharing them with a breast specialist and get a second opinion. |

| . | Hi..I just got a letter from radiology that says my recent mammagram revealed abnormalities. I am going to meet with my doctor to ask what to do next (repeat mammagram or ultrasound?). I'm 47 and never had an abnormal one before, so I'm not terribly worried, but am a bit concerned. I've read that sometimes just a change in the tissue can appear as an abnormality. I've started weight training in the past month; and my breasts have firmed up quite a bit. Could something like this change the density of my breast tissue and appear as an abnormality when compared with my mammogram film of a year ago? |
