Can't understand my pathology report... Please help!

by KDC, Mar 28, 2002 12:00AM
Dear Doctor,

Could you please give me some estimation on my survival chance based on my pathology report attached?  I just had my breast cancer operation and am now very confused and scared...  What kind of chemotherapy do I need?

I deeply appreciate you kind advice and recommendation.

Best,

KDC

Dear KDC:  If I am reading the dimensions of the tumor correctly, 6 x 1.5 x 1.5 with negative lymph nodes, then this would be a T3 size tumor and make your disease stage llB.  The 5 year survival statistic for stage llB breast cancer is 70-75%.  In other words, it is likely that you will do very well.  In this case chemotherapy would be recommended.  Depending on your health and other factors the drugs MAY include AC (adriamycin, cytoxan)and/or taxol.  There are other regimens as well and your oncologist would make the recommendation specific to your situation.
