Hi, I had a mastectomy 1 year ago. Even though I have healed well I still have some sharp pains that last only a second and there is one spot that is still sore around the scar. I had developed keloids. Am I still healing? The post op swelling just went all the way down only 2 months ago. I have a metabolic disorder, glutaric acidermia 2. My muscles are affected. Every time the surgery area would try to heal I wouldn't feel well and it would get inflamed all over again.

Also I sometimes mistakenly sleep on the side of the surgery and this also causes pain. Is this because of the nodes being taken out because I get armpit soreness.

Am I still not suppose to get blood pressure and blood work on that side?

Dear Tanya N:  It is difficult to say exactly why you may be having the discomfort.  It could be scar tissue or, in some cases, just anatomical changes.  It would be a good idea to inform your doctor the next time you see him/her.  After examination, he/she may be able to shed more light on your discomfort.  No, you should not have blood pressure or blood work in that arm - that is forever, unless there is a reason to change that.
