| . | I have taken one cycle of CMF and my hair is coming out, and this is too much for me to deal with. I chose the CMF over the doctor recommended AC because of the CHANCE that I wouldn't loose my hair. History: had bilat. modified radical mastectomy in Feb for several invasive ductal tumors -two measuring 4cm, 3 positive lymph nodes, ER/PR +, and HER2 neg. Tomorrow I start cycle 2, and since I take the cytoxin PO for 14 days I wondered what would happen if I told my dr. that I would only take the IV M and 5-FU. Have any studies been done with just those two chemos? I just can't deal with all this, and loosing my hair is to much to ask. Thank you for your answer. Judy |

| momcat | Dear Momcat: Losing your hair can be a very traumatic side effect of chemotherapy. It is especially difficult to deal with on top of the stress of dealing with the cancer. However, chemotherapy is prescribed based on years of research that demonstrate improved survival statistics based on specific regimens. Cytoxan is a critical piece of the CMF regimen. Eliminating any part of the regimen may seriously compromise the outcome. Most people will experience some hair “thinning” with cytoxan but few loose all of their hair. Also remember, hair loss is temporary. The hair will grow back after chemotherapy is completed. In many cases, the hair begins returning before chemotherapy is completed. There are many options for people with hair loss including very well made custom wigs, scarves, hats, and the like. Many of these options would disguise hair loss from the best beauty critics. |

I didn't tell you - I am 57 and had complete hysterectomy 7 years ago - not for cancer. Thanks |
