Reg Ed. stress on a child w/APD and Language Disorders

Our 9yro Daughter is dx'd with Verbal Language Auditory Processing Deficit, Receptive and Expressive Language Disorder, and a Conduct Disorder.  She is currently in 3rd Grade but functions at a mid 1st Grade Level in LA and Mathmatics.

Since Oct. of 2002 she has been experienceing "Bellyaches" or "cramps" at nite and in the mornings, only before school.  Her Reg Ed Class teacher says she is doing well and grades reflect this. (She does well with help) In recent visits to the classroom, I've observed a "lost look" on her face and no participation in class discussions as well as a "slumping posture" in Reg Ed.  In SPED, She is the complete opposite.

This is the cycle:  Before school= Belly pain (sometimes with a Bm)She has now started to refuse Breakfast.  Durring School= Fecal Retention.(School has tried to accomodate her with her fear of going to the bathroom in school, with no sucess)  After school= Constipation.

My thought is,,the Reg Ed. cirriculum is getting to be to much for her.  Of course, this is quickly shot down by administrators. We were warned by a specialist that by the time she is in 6th grade she will probally need all day SPED to make meaningful progress.

Could these bellyaches be a sign? (previously, in her 9yrs of life, stressful situations bring on bellyaches.)  Am I barking up the right tree by questioning her placement?

Family Dr. told me that this is a normal phase kids go through. I tried to explain to him that this is how she has always reacted to stress.  We are currently keeping a journal at home of the bellyaches. Any thoughts?

You know her history better than anyone, and if somatic complaints, particularly GI complaints, fit her pattern, you may well be on the right track. The comparison between her demeanor in the regular class and her demeanor in the special ed class is pretty striking. Now, on its own this would not mean that she shouldn't be involved in the regular ed class, but it would certainly imply that some intervention should occur around this. By the way, as long as she's having regular bowel movements, it really doesn't matter too much that she won't use the bathroom at school.
