My granddaughter has been diagnosed with iga deficiency. I would like info re above condition, treatment, and effects.
Will appreciate very much any input or info offered. Thx.
As a rule, is this genetic? Does the child possibly outgrow, is there a time-frame for outgrowing this condition? If not, could it continue for a lifetime?

Unfortunately, the causes of this particular immunodeficiency are unknown, and there is no way to substitute for the lack of this immunoglobulin. People with this deficiency are prone to such things as infections, allergies or autoimmune diseases, though there is a great deal of variability in how people with IgA deficiency will respond. Likely these differences are related, at least in part, to the robustness of their overall immune system. There is a significant body of information about this condition available on the internet. Much of it is very reliable, but be sure to check your basic understanding with your granddaughter's physicians. It is a condition that persists - there is no cure.
