eyes changed shape after eylid surgery

by lemony40, May 09, 2007 12:00AM
Hello again,
It is now three weeks post-op for upper and lower blephs combined with rhinoplasty.  While I think things are healing Okay, I do have a couple of questions.  I am still a bit anxious.  My right eye is still "wider" than my left eye.  You can still see the white below my iris of my right eye.  My eyes were not that uneven before the surgery.  My PS said all will fall into place.  Have you ever seen this?  Everyone has told me that they see that my eyes definitely look different.  Even though the "bags" are gone, the shape of my eyes have changed (my eyes were almond shaped, now they look a little more rounded).  Will they go back to the nice almond shape I liked.  I was not expecting the shape of my eyes to change.  I was also not expecting to have one eye look wider than the other eye.  I also still have fluid retention in my lower lids and upper corners of my eyes.  They PS said this is uncommon but it will heal.  There are mornings that I wake up and my eyes are so swollen with fluid, I look as though I have been punched in my eyes.  Is there anything that can decrease this fluid retention during the healing process? (assuming that is what it is).

After any surgery, everyone heals at different rates and with differing degrees of swelling and bruising.  The tissue about the lids is very thin and delicate and more subject to reaction after surgery.  Since you also had a rhinoplasty, this further complicates the process.  Three weeks is very early after surgery.

If the changes you see are still present and unacceptable at four to five months post surgery, then you need to have a serious discussion with your surgeon.
