Genital Warts

by JP15, Dec 19, 2005 12:00AM
I am 27.  I am currently in the military in a deployed location.  The medical care where I am at is limited.  I am the type of person that worries too much and I may be obsessing over this issue, but I felt a need to get your opinion.  I have a steady girlfriend, but I have had 3 other sexual encounters in the last 2 years.  I have always used a condom, and I am aware that condoms are not gauranteed protection against genital warts.  I am done sleeping around, but I fear I have learned my lesson the hard way.  I have no symptoms what so ever, other that one small circular spot at the base of my penis and the scrotum.  It's very small, and it's not noticible, but recently I began to inspect my genitals for the first time in my life, and I found this.  It is slightly darker than the rest of my skin, slightly raised, but flat and smooth.  It does have a hair coming out of it, but it doesn't look like regular hair follicles to me.  I went to a military doctor, who I do trust to a certain extent, but for the most part I have found that military doctors are often wrong.  This Major told me that I shouldn't worry, because he was 90% sure it was nothing other than an average skin anomoly.  I'm about to get married, 90% is not enough to satisfy me.  That actually made me feel worse, and I'm pretty scared.  The last thing I want to do is to go home in a few weeks and give something to my fiancee.  I have looked all over the web, and I can't seem to find anything on warts that may have hair coming out of them.  The doctor over here told me they normally don't, but like I said before, I needed a second opinion.

My question is, can genital warts have a pubic hair coming out of them?  To me this doesn't look like an infected hair follicle, it just looks like a larger hair follicle with a wider base.  What is your advice on this issue?  When I get home, I plan on being safe with my girl friend, and I plan on immediately getting an STD test, and a second opinion.  I appreciate any help you can give me.  Thank you.

Warts do not have hairs in them.  Most penile warts are on the shaft, not at the base of the penis.  The doctor who saw the spot didn't think it is a wart.  That's the best I can say from this distance.  If you need even more reassurance, you'll need to see another doctor you feel you can trust.  I would think that military doctors are pretty conversant with warts and STD's given that they deal with young, sexually-active people.

Best.
