Penile Zit Break Out

I don’t know where to start but i will give you a little background. I have had little white bumps on the shaft of my penis since i can remember. They don’t irritate me. just every once in a while one will seemingly turn into a zit and then pop and go away. I recently was in Mexico with my girlfriend (of almost three years) and two days before we returned i started to notice a few zit-like things appear. Thought that maybe a change in my hygiene routine may have caused the out break since i was getting up and laying out or whatever before showering instead of showering as soon as i wake up everyday. After i got back i started to notice that there were allot of them and they started to itch. I would say that there were 10-15 in all and they look just like zits (not blisters) and they are mostly spread apart. The first round seemed to pop then fade just like a zit but then a second round came as well exactly like the first. I have been home for a week and was having a hard time telling my girlfriend. Once i started to bring up the issue she started to cry. She then proceeded to tell me that she had herpes and that she takes medication regularly and that she has been very cautious, etc. As you can imagine I was at a loss for words. I then began my research...
Firstly i found that the white bumps where pearly penile something and nothing to worry about.
Secondly I started looking up herpes and things related to penile zits. The pictures i see of herpes look like clusters of water blisters. These don’t look like that as they are just like zits and mostly spread apart.
If you could please shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Sure, happy to. The bumps you describe sound like small cysts. They do not sound at all like herpes. If your girlfriend, takes anti-herpes medicine regularly, that will lower the chances of her spreading it but not eliminate them completely. You should therefore use condoms as an extra precaution. If the two of you decide to spend your lives together, you can reconsider the condoms. By all means show a doctor the bumps so you'll know for sure, but I do not think you contracted herpes.
