Bite-Like Pimples

by MelissaG, Dec 07, 2006 12:00AM
My 35-year-old boyfriend has recurring outbreaks of mosquito-bite like pimples over his face, neck, upper arms, chest, and back. He itches them in the night, and they often bleed and scab over. He absolutely refuses to see a dermatologist. We don't have bedbugs, fleas, or a mosquito problem. What does this sound like? I have given up on getting him to see a doctor, but perhaps there are over-the-counter remedies I could give to him. Thanks.

Hard to say: acne, folliculitis, mild skin imperfections that he scratches.  They may even be insect bites, since it sometimes happens that one person gets bitten and another doesn't.  That's something you can perhaps get information on by consulting an exterminator.  As to your boyfriend, he's not going to get a proper diagnosis until he 1)stops scratching long enough for someone to be able to see what's going on and 2) consulting a dermatologist in person.  I realize that getting him to do so will be hard, but I don't think it's fair to you top have to put up with his scratching and bleeding without taking steps to find out what's wrong and fix it.

Good luck.
