bumps on penis and red spot

by very concerned man, Jun 25, 2007 12:00AM
I am now 20 years old and have had bumps on my balls that started where the hair came out of the skin then it eventually worked its way up the bottom of the shaft.i have had sex but i had these bumps since i was in the seventh grade which puts me at 12 to 13 years old and i didnt loose my virginity until i was 19. Now i have bumps on my penis that are just about everywhere but they can only be seen when the skin is pulled tight or i have an erection, which you can then, barely see the bumps with an erection.  i have always kept the bumps from my partner but now that we are getting more and more sexual i wanted to make sure it was nothing before we start to have oral sex. we have always used a condom. yesterday i wore whitey tighties for the first time in years (i always wear boxers) and when i took a shower that night i noticed a small red spot just above where i have been circumcised and below the bottom of the head an now im really worried is it herpes? but it is almost healed, after one day there is a small scab left and the sore was alot smaller then the size of a pencil and i had no pain. i have never had any problems with the bumps but sometimes i can pop them if they get a pin size whole in them and a little white puss comes out like a zit. im just concerned on what all this could be. please write back soon with advice.
Thanks,

My advice is to ignore these bumps, which are small cysts that are part of you and common on the scrotum and penis.  Popping them is pointless.  You ought to show them to a doctor next time you go, so you can be reassured and forget about them.  They aren't going anywhere and they don't need to.

Take care.

Hi this sounds like my problem I have, I have had it for a long time like yourslef and in the same areas.
I have never been sure what it is, I assume they are just blocked pores but I am very hygenic and shower every day.
I know I shouldn't but when I squeeze one thick white plaque like stuff comes out of it, in a similar form to a black head.
Some can be really hard to pop and I have used a needle in the past to get rid of the things.

I have only had one partner so far which I met a long time after I had these and had un protected intercourse for 4 years and she never seemed affected, so I am unsure what is wrong with me........

Am I using the wrong soap or something? Thanks for any advice! :)

Dear Very Concerned...
I understand that there is a definite need for concern when it comes to your own genital area. With all the sexual propaganda fed to us since the middle of gradeschool it is very common that the little hypochondriac inside us all wakes up at the sight of anything irregular. What you are describing is something that is not at all uncommon. What you are experiencing is the appearance of hair follicles (sporadically placed around the scrotum and at the base of the penis) and subaceous glands which excrete natural oil, to keep your penis moisturized. You'll realize that these bumps, if they are hair follicles, if you gently pull on the hair they will become raised as they would on your leg or arm. As for the subaceous glands, these tend to be more evident on the underside of the penis and appear as white bumps when at full erection, or when the skin of the penis is pulled taut. THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON! If you are really really concerned than I would consult a physician. But there are a few things I'd like to recommend. Do not use moisturizing or non-hypoallegenic lotions on the penis as this may clog these glands and cause then to become inflamed. As well.. if you're in the habit of wearing a towel for prolonged periods of time after a shower..this may cause folliculitis..an inflamation of the follicles in the genital region. Best of luck to you.

Sincerely, Triple5soul

Pinster of all the symptoms I've read about, yours sound the most like mine. I have similar bumps on my chest but they're more prominent on my scrotum and penis. I've tried different recommended ointments and such but nothing's really worked. I've always been confused what it was because I've had it for many years (I've always been too embarrassed to say I need to see a doctor about it). I never thought it was an std because it started before I even kissed a girl and even though I wash that area more than any other part of me, I still have much clearer skin on my face than that area. If you've had any luck I'd GREATLY appreciate some insight.
