3yr female, hands and feet peeling

by MegInPA, Jul 01, 2007 12:00AM
My 3 year old daughter was treated for Scarlet's fever approximately 3 weeks ago. The pediatrician gave her a shot of antibiotics in the thigh and everything cleared up. All of the sudden her hands have started peeling in layers. They look as if they are blisters, then they break and all the skin peels. Her entire hand from finger tips to her wrists have peeled completely and are starting over again.  The skin between her toes has also now started to peel and is starting to encompass both of her feet.  What could this possibly be and should I take her to the doctor's? Could this be an after effect of her Scarlet fever? Does this require some sort of treatment? Please HELP!!!

Don't worry.  Scarlet fever is caused by the strep bacteria, and after a strep infection people sometimes get peeling of the skin of the palms.  It lasts a while while the skin grows a new layer, and everything is fine, as I'm sure it will be with your daughter too.  This takes place a few weeks after the infection, and does not mean that the infection is still there, so no antibiotics are needed, or any other treatment, for that matter.  By all means check with the doctor, if you're concerned.

Take care.

my son had a strange rash where he had white tiny bumps all over his body and the doctor said it was a viral rash.  his skin was really hot all the time for like a week and a half and then it finally went away.  this thing made him extremely irritable and emotional and tired.  its been about a week since he had that and now his hands started to peel on the palms and thumbs.  now his toes are starting to peel.  i'm wondering if this skin peeling is related to the viral rash.  they checked him for strep at the doctor when i brought him in for the rash but it came back negative.  i guess i'll wait and see what happens.  anyone else had this?
