Accutane Side Effects

Hello. I have been on Accutane for 2 1/2 months (40g first month then 80g). My derm was planning to keep me on it for 6 months. Results are great except my lips are so horribly chapped, dry, irritated, & peeling. I also developed a skin infection on the corner of my mouth. My derm prescribed Hydrocortisone Butyrate cream, USP, 0.1% for my lips & Oxistat Cream 1% for the infection. I just started these products yesterday. My concern is that I'm getting married in November & supposed to take my final Accutane pills 5 days before my wedding day. I do not want to have these side effects on my wedding day. My acne was not severe prior to Accutane; its just that I've been taking meds for years so we thought this would be a better option. So will my lips will be back to normal within 5 days of stopping Accutane? If not, would it make a difference to stop Accutane earlier (maybe 2 weeks to 1 month earlier) so that side effects will be cleared up by my wedding & would that effect my results? Will I have side effects/flare-up from stopping Accutane? Is the Hydrocortisone cream sufficient alone for my lip treatment?

I think you should stop the Accutane 2 weeks before the wedding, as you suggest. That way you'll be sure the dryness is gone. A course of Accutane is usually 5 months, unless the case is especially severe. Since yours apparently isn't, I see nothing for you to lose by stopping a bit sooner. Congratulations!
