Has anyone ever heard of a treatment called radioactive retinography ? It might have been used in the 50s to treat diabetic retinopathy. Could anyone explain what it consisted in ?

Thanxs

Hello Benate,

I am so sorry I did not reply sooner.  I am not a medical professional, so my answers / input is based on personal experience and knowledge.

My son has type 1 and was diagnosed at the age of3, 6-1/2 yrs. ago.  My sister also has type 1 and was diagnosed in adulthood.

I am personally unfamiliar with this treatment.  My inclination is to refer you to LRS's answer.  She is very knowledgeable and always has good information.

I have tried searching and to no avail.  I even tried searching medical encyclopedias, but found nothing.  I apologize.

My only advice is to talk to a physician regarding this treatment.

Once again, I apologize that I could not be of any help.  Do check back because helpful comments might be posted.

If you obtain any info. feel free to clue us in:)

Take care!

I don't know about that procedure, but as a long time diabetic, I have had another procedure: fluorescein angiography, that you can read about here:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003846.htm

I'm not a physician, but from what I've read, the fluorescein doesn't seem to be radioactive.  It is a dye used to allow an ophthalmologist to see our retinas and the blood vessels and any leaks better.

Do you know someone who had the radioactive radiography?  Perhaps that person can help you track down info from the facility where they had the procedure done?  Maybe others on this board will have more info, too.

Wish I could be more help; hope you find the info you're looking for.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

It's always helpful to hear from other people's experiences.

Take care
