Post scleral buckle surgery

by KatieMcG, May 26, 2006 12:00AM
I had my second scleral buckle surgery 5 weeks ago.  I just went to my follow up visit and my dr. told me that I may have a membrane forming over my retina.  He is unsure at this time if it is just a swollen retina or the membrane.  My questions are is it common to have a swollen retina this long after surgery?  Also, what does a surgery to remove the membrane require?

if it is an "epiretinal membrane" he will do an epiretinal peel.  a delicate removal of the membrane.

no, i would not consider it to be "common" to have swelling 5 weeks out.  but it certainly happens.
