Vision Problems After Vitrectomy

by phillymike, Jun 20, 2006 12:00AM
When it rains...On April 11 I had surgery for cancer of the layrnx. On May 17th, I had a vetrectomy for retinal detachment. THe surgeon tells me the retina looks great--"perfect", he said. Easy for him to say! I am experiencing double vision in that eye with the image being smaller and titled.

The cancer surgery has taken away my ability to swallow, Now, this has taken away my ability to enjoy reading, etc.

HAs anyone had this? Will it go away? Will I be able to drive again? What can an optomitrist do for me?

did you have a "buckle" surgery?  or a vitrectomy only?

if you had a buckle, you may have continued minification and monocular dipolpia no matter what glasses rx you have now.  usually the best way to solve that IMO is with a rigid contact lens fit.  go to an optometrist who specialized in "specialty" or difficult contact lens fits.

if you did not have a buckle, then you likely just need a new pair of glasses with a new rx...

I have had retinal surgery in both eyes in the last 2 years and have experienced some double vision each time (worse in the eye that needed the scleral buckle). In each case the double vision went away (logest time was 5 weeks.

Good luck.
