Eye surgery

In 1994 at age 49, I had cataract surgery in my left eye.  Multifocal lenses were experimental at the time and as a result I could see my hand when held 3 to 4 inches from my face but I could see absolutely nothing past these few inches (not even blurry shapes).   Six weeks went by with no improvement whatsoever.  The lense was replaced 6 weeks later with a monofocal.  Since the lense replacement, my vision is very poor but certainly better than it was with the multifocal.  I saw the Ophthalmologist today and these are the words that he wrote on a piece of paper for me..... SYNNECHIALYSIS and SYNNECHIAE.  He said that he would need to puncture the eye to remove this.  I want to think about it for a long time before I get anything else done to my eyes.   Can you tell me how risky

this procedure is and how much amelioration I can expect?

Also, I have a cataract in the right eye that will likely need an operation within the next 6 to l2 months  due to past experience, I am very nervous. I keep reading about all these lucky people who are so happy with their Restor or Rezoom lenses and I dream of perfect vision without glasses but I would be too frightened to take that risk again.  Can you tell me if these

lenses have improved very much in the last 12 years.  Can you tell me also if it is likely that my dreadful results had more to do with the Ophthalmologist’s lack of experience with these new lenses or does it have to do with the implant itself?  Thank you for your time and for your wisdom.

yes, multifocal implants have come a long way in the last 12 years.

your "dreadful results" were not likely do be due to the implant itself.

you will likely not experience much vision improvement with the lysis of the synnechiae.
