Symptoms of optic neuritis?

by Klinktc79, Jul 07, 2006 12:00AM
Could you give me a brief run down of the symptoms of optic neuritis? How common is each individual symptom? Is there any one symptom that is present in nearly all cases of ON (assuming that there is no symptom that occurs in 100% of cases)? How common are mild cases in which the patient may barely notice symptoms?

Thanks.

the problem with ON and just about all red eyes is that the symptoms are all the SAME:  redness, pain, blurred vision, vision loss, tearing, etc etc etc.  THE only way to diagnose ON is to have someone or some instrument actually *look* at the optic nerve.  w/o looking at the optic nerve, the symptoms of ON are pretty much exactly the same as conjunctivitis, angle closure glaucoma, iritis/uveitis, iridocyclitis, retinitis, etc etc ad nauseum.  no, there is not one symptom that you can hang your hat on as being ON.

mild cases where the patient does not know they have ON are fairly common.
