Doctor says clot in eye, is that normal?

by Archieboy, Jan 17, 2007 12:00AM
Hello,

In the past few weeks I have noticed a little grayish spot in my right eye (also had one in the left eye but I don`t see it as much). I notice it mainly when looking at the computer screen, or in a room with relatively low lighting. I do not notice it when outside for example in the sun.

I went to the eye doctor yesterday and he dialated my pupils and said it was a little clot (of the gel inside I guess) and he said it was no big deal, no need for surgery or anything now (which worried me because he said "now") and he said that my retina looked perfectly fine and that I should go again in 1 year. Should I worry or is this normal? Will it eventually move away?

I have Myopia -3.75 and -4.00 and astigmatism -1.25 en each eye. I`m 28 and in good general health.

Thanks for the help.

a "clot" in your eye would not be normal at all...however what you and your doc are both describing is *NOT* a "clot".  what you just described is commonly known as FLOATERS.  vitreal floaters are extremely common and totally normal.  no, you do not need to worry.  go back in 1 yr.

BTW dont tell any future doc/eye doc that you had a "clot" in your eye.  you havent.  that would be a totally, totally different condition than what you are describing.  i hope "clot" was your choice of words and not your doctors.  if it was your doc's, he had a poor choice of wording for your condition...

you have FLOATERS, not "clots".

Thanks,

Well, about the word clot...I used the word ecause the doctor said "grumo" in spanish, I`m from mexico and I looked at the translation and it said clot. Basically meaning a liquid that has become more solid in some area.

So it`s a floater? I thought floater looked like small bubbles that move, this is more like a grayish spot that is pretty much in the same place, but it does not impede or obstruct my vision or anything, just annoys me.

Well, I hope it`s nothing more than a floater as you say.

My eyesight is 20/20 with glasses, so that`s good.

Thanks!

Best,

Archie
