Cataract Post-Op Question

by cad2, May 07, 2007 12:00AM
Hey all.  For background, I'm a 31 yo who was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes in November 2006.  THe right one was significantly worse and my eye doc recommended surgerery, which I had on 4/26.  I chose ReZoom since I'm right eye dominant and so young (this was *NOT* a presbyopia correcting surgery for me).

So far so good, really.  I have EXCELLENT daytime distance vision, intermediate and reading get better every day.  Night vision is not superb but also improving daily. (this all seems contrary to the general attitude on multi-focals on this forum).

My question:  I'm on 1% Econopred for another 2 weeks.  My eye doc explained that steroids can excellerate cataract growth.  Can getting drops in my right eye cause the left cataract to change?  Or another way of saying this: is the econopred drop absorbed by my eye and passed through my system or does it stay local to the eye?

Well, I guess I have one other question.  I use the "Solar Shield" sunglasses almost all of the time.  They allow me to see clearly for computer reading, which was surprising.  Is this common?

I'm hoping to stave off having the left eye done for as long as possible to allow technology to continue to improve my options.  (if I need it done in the near term, she is recommending ReStor for my left, non-dominant eye).

Anyhow, thanks for any feedback.
