OD WANTS TO REMOVE EYE

AFTER 3 EYE OPERATIONS MY DAUGHTER IS NOW BLIND IN HER RIGHT EYE.
SHE IS 14 AND WANTS TO WEAR A CONTACT ON HER LEFT EYE. HER OD FITTED HER FOR THAT AND THEN WNATED TO CHECK HER RIGHT EYE SHE REACTED IN SEVER PAIN AND THE FIRST THING HE SAID WAS WE NEED TO REMOVE HER EYE. OUR RETINA DOC HAE TOLD HER IF THE EYE BECOMES TO PAINFUL HE WILL DO SOME THING TO THE NERVE TO DEADEN IT. WE WOULD REALLY LIKE HE TO KEEP THE EYE. IT IS NOT DOING WELL THE PRESSURE IS AT 4 FOR THE LAST 3 CHECK UPS, WE HAVE SEEN 4 DIFFERENT DOCS 3 TOLD US TO KEEP THE EYE ONE TOLD US REMOVE. DO YOU KNOW OF ANYONE DOING RESEARCH ON THE RETINA AND EYE TO GET IT WORKING AGIN? WE HEARD ABOUT A DOCTOR IN ALABAMA WHO WAS HELPING PEOPLE SEE AGAIN KNOW ANYTHING ON HIM?

Mark Michelson in Birmingham is not retina but can be trusted to make a recommendation for retina specialist in Alabama. Emory Univ in Atlanta is excellent as well.

Don't waste your money on the over the counter drops.  If she is not already, shee she should be on a steroid drop to help keep the pressure up in the eye.  There is no need to remove the eye unless it becomes painful.

WE GOT LUCKY . THE RETINA DOC CHECKED HER EYE TUESDAY AND SAID THE PRESSURE IS UP TO 8. BUT HE THINKS THE EYE IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH BLOOD. WE HAVE GONE FROM TO MANY BLOOD VESSELS TO NOT ENOUGH BLOOD. I SAW SOME OVER THE COUNTER MEDS FOR EYE HEATLH IN WALMART. DO YOU THINK MAYBE IT WOULD HELP FOR HER TO TAKE SOMETHING LIKE THAT?

dont know.  sorry!

i am not saying her eye is totally unsalvagable.  maybe they think they can still work with it.  i am just saying that if the IOP really is "4", thats an ominus sign.  poor prognosis.

THANK YOU FOR THE ANSWER EVEN IF I DIDNT WANT TO HEAR IT. I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION. IF THE RETINA DOC KNOWS THIS IS THE OUT COME FOR KIDS 9 TO 14 WHY DO THEY DO THE RETINA ATTACHMENT USING THE SCLERAL BUCKLING WHY NOT LEAVE THE EYE ALONE IF BLINDNESS IS THE OUT COME NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO? HAS ANYONE IN THAT AGE GROUP HAD A GOOD OUT COME? THE ONES I KNOW HAVE NOT. PLEASE IF YOU KNOW OF A GROUP OR WEB SITE OR ANYTHING THAT WE CAN TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. IS THERE NOT ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE FOR HYPOTONY? WHY DO THEY WANT TO DO A YAG LAZER ON THE EYE TO OPEN UP THE MEMBRANE GROWING IN IT IF THE EYE IS DYING?

no, i dont know anone in alabama at all.

an iop of 4 is unlikely to be "saved" by anyone.  thats called "hypotony" and it is a very bad sign.

you need another opinion.  she will most likely end up having to have it removed if you cant get the pressure up.
