Vaginal Taste

by shade2468, Mar 14, 2002 12:00AM
I was abstinent for about 2 years. When I finally had sex again my boyfriend noticed a foul taste when performing oral sex on me. I could actually taste it too when he kissed me. The taste also comes from the areolas of my breasts. My prolactin level is normal and I've tested negative for the usual STD's. Are there any infections or conditions that could be responsible. Rigorous hygiene practices have done nothing to eliminate the taste.

Thank you for visiting the family practice forum.

There are two vaginal infections which are quite common and are NOT STDs. Those are Candida Vaginitis (yeast infection) and Gardnerella Vaginitis. This "taste" coming from the areolas of your breasts may be candida (yeast) as well. Candidiasis is treated with either vaginal cream (i.e. Terazole) or a one day dose of an anti-fungal medication called Diflucan. Gardnerella is treated with a medication called Flagyl which is taken for 7 days. I suspect if your doctor does a "swab" of any vaginal secretions one of these infections may be present. I would also recommend having a urinalysis.

I hope this proves helpful to you!
