Sperm Quality

by osiag, Jan 13, 2006 12:00AM
My sperm count 33 million per mL.  Motility - 41% (Normal range is 50-80%).   Morphology is only 3%.  I am not sure how 41% could be swimming well if only 3% are properly formed.  One way to view thus is that my fertility would be very low because virtually all of my sperm are malformed.  Is that the proper view?  If a sperm is malformed, how likely is it to cause conception vs a normal morphology sperm?  50% as likely? 10%? etc?  Who bad is my fertility based on what I have conveyed?

I had abstained 3 days.  However, on the one hour car ride to the testing site.  I was sitting on a seat warmer for the full length of the ride.  Could the heart have affected the test?  If anything, I would have thought that the heat may have affecting the swimming but not morphology?

It goes without saying that malformed sperm would have a lower chance of fertilization.  Studies have shown that there is a correlation between fertilzation rate and proportion of malformed sperm.  One small study gives a fertilization rate of 6% in those with high proportion of malformed sperm, vs 60% in those with a normal proportion of malformed sperm.

I am not aware of the heart or using a seat warmer affecting the morphology of the sperm.
