HCG not doubling....

by Katie0550, Jun 01, 2007 12:00AM
I had my first IVF this month.  Everything went great - my RE retrieved 14 eggs, 10 fertilized, 2 transferred on day 3, 5 blastocysts were frozen.  I went for my 1st beta HCG on 5/29 (10dp3dt) and it was 99!!!!  My progesterone was 283 - high enough for my RE to take me off of the progesterone IM supplemental shots.  I then went back for my second beta HCG on 5/31 (12dp3dt) and my HCG was only 136.6.......  My RE is very concerned since my HCG didn't double...  I will have it rechecked on Saturday, 6/2.  I am so worried now that something went wrong.  Is this usually a sign of an impending m/c?

Dear Katie-

It is too early to tell. I would have liked to see the second beta-HCG increase by at least 1 2/3; it does not have to double. But let's keep our fingers crossed - I have seen normal pregnancies develop after beta-HCGs that do not rise quite as quickly as we would like. Unfortunately, only time will tell and I know that the waiting is very difficult!

Good luck.

This is my worry too.  Only my HVG was only 10! at my first beta.  I am terrified.  My next one is tomorrow and if the number doesn't increase I will be crushed.  My RE said she wanted to see 25-30 on my first beta.

Don't worry about your hcg levels. This only brings you worries. As long as they go up even a little bit, it's not a problem. But mostly when you see on the sono. That the sac and embryo is growing doesn't matter what the hcg is. My doctor told me that he wants to see the progress on the sono. As long as it grows he doesn't care for the hcg levels. Unfortunately my levels started going down and i miscarrieg at 7 weeks. Good luck
