Don't stress about your condition, at least it has a name - try going in for an appendectomy only to be told 'they couldn't find it'. I learnt how rare this was when I put a note out asking if anyone else out there had a similar experience and received no response.
Take care - your condition is complicated, but I am sure with the right specialist you will get the right treatment.
Thanks so much for your response. I have found that very few people know about this condition. Leave it to me to get something that is sort of/kind of considered rare. I will try posting to the Doctor's Forum. Thanks for the suggestion!
Hi, I am not sure that you are on the wrong forum, I just think the complication of your condition is reason for the lack of response. This forum does not include a doctors views only that of other patients, like yourself.
Perhaps you should log onto the Gastroenterology Drs website where a trained doctor will respond to your query.
However, I found an extract as your concerns seem to be whether to have/not to have surgery:
Surgical Care: A patient with a large hiatal hernia may experience vague intermittent chest discomfort or pain. The paraesophageal hernia may strangulate and frequently is operated on prophylactically to prevent this complication. Paraesophageal hernias may present in infants or adults as a potentially life-threatening complication of strangulation, and prompt surgical repair is key. When found in asymptomatic individuals, laparoscopic repair is often undertaken, with large defects in the diaphragm being closed with mesh.
I would definitely get a specialits opinion on this procedure.
