Both tests are reliable and FDA approved. MOVE ON.
Ok I kissed a guy with HIV and I had a cold sore. Almost two years later I got 2 different Oraquick Advance blood ***** tests. Both were negative. Then I heard that they are not reliable so I went and got two Elisa tests....I have become sooo paranoid ever since hearing the oraquickwere not reliable, I can't stop worrying that my tests are accurate! HELP!
Oraquick Advance is 98.5-99.9%
Oraquick is 99.6% and 100.0%
OraSure is greater than 99%
What exactly is the percentage of Orasure vs. Oraquick for those that want to know which one is more effective?
"All are antibody tests."
Thanks Teak. So basically, the accuracy of testing between those tests is practically the same as they're looking for the same thing?
I hope this explains the different tests from OraSure. All are antibody tests.
In 1994, OraSure brought to market the OraSure
Any significant difference between the two tests?
Yes all are looking for antibodies for HIV 1, except OraQuick Advance and it looks for antibodies for HIV 1 and 2.
To be honest, I wouldn't even test after what you are describing your exposure. I really don't feel you need to worry about 6 weeks / 12 weeks and there on. You didn't really have a risk.
I think when doc says 6 weeks, he means that for a particular questioner depending upon the risk asessment of the questioner's exposure. I really do not feel that his answers are meant to be generalized. His answers cater to the questioner only. However, it is ironical ( w/o meaning disrespect), no matter what the exposure, he refers everyone to "time to test positive" chain.
I really feel doctor or as a matter of fact anyone can not set the window period in stone(common) for all exposures and at times even he himself has admitted to that. I feel even he does not really go into details for setting testing schedules for forum questioners as that can be tricky(what I mean is that nobody really knows). 6 weeks figure seem more like a "get the thought out of your head" as you never had a risk to me.
So why does Dr. HHH post time after time test at 6 weeks and you are good to go and that he has never seen anyone test negative at 6 weeks and then turn positive. Even going back to 2005 in the STD forum he states that if you test negative at 6 weeks you don't have HIV period.
You have been very helpful on this site, but about the time I start feeling good, you terrify me again.
I had what was considered a low risk exposure by Dr. and others on this site including you(unprotected oral both ways and protected vaginal with an escort). I tested negative at 24, 30, 36 and 42 days and now I am very very scared again.
Neither test is a conclusive test at 6 weeks.
