HEPATITIS B, CIRRHOSIS AND GALLSTONES

HELP!!! MY GRANDFATHER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HEPATITIS B IN AUGUST OF 1999. WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT HE HAD GALLSTONES- THEY SAID THAT THE WALL OF HIS GALLBLADDER HAD THICKENED AND HIS GALLBLADDER WAS FULL OF STONES. THEY DID NOT DO SURGERY BECAUSE THE DOCTOR SAID THAT HE WANTED TO TRY TO SEE IF THE HEPATITIS WOULD GO AWAY W/ MEDICATION. UNFORTUNATLY IN OCTOBER THEY SAID THAT HE HAD HEPATITIS FOR MOST OF HIS LIFE AND SOMETHING HAD CAUSED IT TO FLARE UP-POSSIBLY A COLD OR THE FLU. THIS MADE THEM BEGIN TO LOOK AT HIS LIVER, THEY TOLD US SHORTLY AFTER THAT HE HAD CIRRHOSIS. HE HAD TO HAVE HIS STOMACH DRAINED FOUR TIMES WITH IN THE LAST 2 AND 1/2 MONTHS- BECAUSE OF THE ACITIES. LAST WEEK THEY TOLD US THAT THERE IS NOTHING MORE THAT THEY CAN DO AND THEY ESTIMATED THAT HE HAD TWO MONTHS TO LIVE. HE NO LONGER EATS ANYTHING AND HE HAS LOST AT LEAST 50 POUNDS. WHAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND IS - WHY DIDN'T THEY REMOVE HIS GALLBLADDER- COULD THIS BE CAUSING SOME OF THE PROBLEMS? I HAVE READ A LOT OF ARTICLES THAT SAY THAT A PERSON CAN LIVE W/ CIRRHOSIS FOR A LONG TIME, AND THAT YOU ONLY NEED A PORTION OF YOUR LIVER TO SURVIVE. COULD THIS ALL BE RELATED?
