2 yr old with high alkaline phosphotase levels

by Cody, Jun 06, 2000 12:00AM
Dear Doctor,

My nephew has just had blood work done detecting high levels of alkaline phosphotase.  His pediatrician has determined that it is related to his bones.  He will have a bone scan a Texas Children's in Houston, TX soon.  What are the possible problems found with the high enzyme level?  So far we have heard a malignancy and possible metabolic bone disorder.  He seems perfectly healthy otherwise, just a normal energetic 2 year old. He even grew from 70% to 95% in weight and height for his age group in the past 3 months.  Any advice and/or recommendations would be appreciated.  Could frequently sprayed mosquito insecticides have anything to do with the high levels?

Thanks,

Cody
