Oxycontin or not?

by Magnum, Dec 04, 2001 12:00AM
Hello

Apparently, taking two 5 mg. of Oxycodone for two weeks at about 6 per week has not dented this horrific back pain apparently greatly amplified by the treatment, or, I've become acclimated to the drug.

I met with the back specialist today who has ordered an MRI. Meanwhile, I asked him to get me through this month on my feet if possible. He has prescribed Oxycontin at 80 mg. pills, one every 12 hours.

Isn't this a powerful drug to have your liver handle? What about the dosage? I'm going from a maximum of 2 pills (10 mg.) Oxycodone at one time, to 80 mg. of Oxycontin at one time.

I spoke to the pharmacist today and she said it is metabolized in the kidneys not the liver. True or false? I am very reluctant to take any drugs and will obviously take one when the pain is unbearable (like at night). My gastro said no to Oxycontin but yes to Oxycodone. I remain more confused now than before. Any reply will be greatly appreciated
