help with my son 12, has AIH and possible IBD

by littlemom12, Oct 01, 2002 12:00AM
Yes, I am extremely concerned about my son, as he was dx with AIH in July of 2002. His liver biopsy shows extensive piecemeal necrosis, bridging fibrosis. And  the Diagnosis was Chronic Active hepatitis Grade III and IV. Bridging Fibrosis Grade III. He has tested negative for any hepatitis viruses, so they tell me this is a autoimmune diease. He had a IBD DX-step done and the results were: pANCA postive/ASCA IgA ELISA <12.0/ASCA IgG ELISA <12.0/ ANCA ELISA >192.2/ Pattern Absent aOmpC 1.5. He also had a L-K Microsomal, results <1:40, He also had an  ANAI (ICE/ICE), ASMI test done, results ANA TITER 1:80/ ANA PATTERN HOMOGENEOUS/ ASM TITER 1:80/ ASM PATTERN POSITIVE. He has also had a colonscopy done, and the results came back with inflammation in different areas. His liver enzymes have been as followes. 7-20-2002 ALT 314 AST 400/Started on 30mg pred and 25mg of Imuran.  8-1-02 ALT 231 AST 195/Upped his dose of Imuran to 3/4 tablet of 50mg tablet on August 19, 2002. 8-15-02 ALT 134 AST 97/ 9-4-02 ALT 163 AST 84/ 9-25-02 ALT 270 AST 178. I am really concerned and need someone to help, I just need to understand this a little clearer, I don't understand how the meds could help one month and go back up the next with his meds never changing. Some help would be greatly appreciated. By the way my son is only 12years old.
