Heptimax Test, Post -tx CBC

by bunkywoo, Sep 14, 2003 12:00AM
Hi Everyone:

Went to get my 6 month post-tx Heptimax test but the hospital I go to told me that they do not do it. Now I have to go to a Quest laboratory for it (several in the area so not a problem). I was wondering if anyone had any problem with the insurance companies paying for this test and if this is standard that some hospitals don't do the test.

Also, wondering if most dr's do post-tx CBC, Alt/Ast tests. Mine hasn't since I quit tx. Just for my own peace of mind had him write me another script to get those done too. Other than that have lots of energy and feeling great. Hope it's a good indication!

Good luck to everyone and you are all always in my thoughts.

Does your lab do Ultra-Qual or Ultra-Quant? Both are very sensitive and more than adequate.

Actually, upon reflection, nearly any PCR will do for the 6 month one. You want a Heptimax or Ultra-Quant at the end of treatment.

Hi Laurie, as Michael points out, if the virus is still there, unchecked by meds, there should be nothing subtle about detecting it  (see extended tx thread below). Any reasonale quant/qual test will do the job. On the other hand, getting complete CBC/thyroid, liver-function tests seems like a very good idea. You want to confirm that everything is "back to normal". As recent posts have shown (enlarged red blood cells, hypo/hyper thyroid function, post-tx fatty liver..) this is not always the case.

Congratulations on finishing and best luck on your test results.

Best of luck with your 6 month tests.  I pray you are still neg.  My Dr is having me have tests every 3 months and my first one since being off tx will be 10/1/ so I'm praying that I'm still neg.

It took me about 6 wks to get back my energy but I worked and worked out 5 days wk while on tx, just feel lots better now.

God bless,

Linda

Good luck on that 3-month post test, and the 6-month, and the 12-month, too!  I'm still enjoying the ride.  Maj Neni
