Joint pain and use for other topics

by susan400, Oct 11, 2003 12:00AM
I've been having more and more joint pains as of late.  Mostly in my hips.  It really gets to be annoying when it wakes me up early in the morning and then, I can't go back to sleep because I can't get comfortable.  There is a history of arthritis in my family, but I'd never been particularly bothered by it before now.  I exercise on the stationary bike every day and do stretches, so lack of moment is not the cause.  I am unable to take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.  So, for now, it's just using the heating pad in my waking hours.  As far as other sides right now is dry skin, loss of appetite/weight loss, fatigue.  I'm not particularly depressed, just blah-antisocial, no motivation.  I'll be so glad to make it to Jan. when I can go off of treatment. It will have been a whole year on this high dose regimen.  I'm going to have myself a big huge meal of something yummy and not worry even one little bit about calories!

Susan, you mention that you are on a high-dose regimen.  What do you mean by that?  What is your dosage and what is your weight?  Isn't the dose prescribed dependant on weight?  I have noticed that others seem to be taking a lot more medicine than I am.  I have not experienced any joint pain.  Perhaps joint pain is a more common side effect with higher dosage.

I was also curious as to what you are calling high dose. My pain seems to be all in the bones themselves not the joints, especially my forearms down to my fingers and my shoulder and neck area. Does your pain last all day or just in the morning?I am probably one of the only people I know of that actually gains weight on tx. Hot baths are the only thing that seems to give me any relief besides pain killers but I limit them to shot days.

My high dose regimen is Once a week Peg-Intron Plus daily shots of 9mu regular Intron-A plus the Ribavirin.  You're right the pain is not just in the joints, it's in my backbone, wrists, etc., but it's mostly concentrated in the joints.

I, too, had lots of joint pain with tx.  Now that I am finished, I still get some bad headaches, which are slowly subsiding, but my bones and muscles seem to back to normal.  Hope yours are feeling better soon and that it's just the drugs.  Ibuprofen seemed to help it if you doc will let you have it.

I need some advice please.

Yesterday evening I took an extra dose of Ribavirin by mistake

( brain fog).I'm a 2b so only on 800mg a day, I took an extra 400mg yesterday. Should I miss my first dose today or just carry on as normal?

Best wishes

Joanna

To JoAnna,

Can't tell you what to do about the ribaviran mix up, would suggest you call the dr... But I can say that getting a pill container with all the days of the week with AM and PM..was one of the best things I ever did for making the pill taking easier.  I suggest you get one ASAP.. great investment.

I can't get hold of a doctor on a Sunday. Not one that knows anything of value anyway. My Gastro doc is on holiday in Mauritius and here in the UK , GP's dont't work on a Sunday and I could only get in touch with a locum who would probably not even have heard of Pegasys and Ribavirin. I have not taken my morning dose to be on the safe side. I was going to buy exactly what you suggested, a pill dispenser, tomorrow morning, if my brain fog doesn't make me forget over night!

Best wishes

Just take your regular dose. Get back on schedule and forget about it. It's no big thing except for the increased sides which shouldn't be too bad. Good luck. Mike

I have had terrible pains also, I use a homedics chair vib./heat, and hot baths do help. My dr put me on loratabs and I do use them, I am 3 shots away from 48, and he has cut my dosage, but any relief is great! Hang in there! I also tried vioxx, but made my kidney area hurt so I stopped them..prayers to you. ~Cindee~

And Doll Face...I have gained about 45 lbs while on tx. I know I will get it off when the fatigue goes away...my husband doesn't mind...he encourages me to eat, eat, eat! I am 48 and we haven't been married for a yr yet....we both think the weight gain is better than being sick and (losing) your meds. I am hep c geno 1 a. My viral load was over 16 million, was told I had the virus for 20 to 30 yrs. I really think the weight gain is a plus keeping all my meds down, we feel has helped me respond better. None of my drs. have even mentioned the weight gain. So don't worry we'll get back to normal one of these days....normal...wow doesn't that sound wonderful??????? prayers are w/ you. ~Cindee~
