And Crybaby,,I would say that is riding in style mowing a lawn LOL I guess we all have something we splurge on during the year and craziness! I got to admit,,,I said to my hubby,,,You know,,,we are at house now so much more and saving so much money haha Next thing I know,,,,a couple of weeks ago,,,we are at store buying big screen tv and new enertainment center LOL Ouch Wonder if I will regret,,,when I wake up from tx??
After tx is over, we need to let our body heal in it's own way. We need the food to feed the mechanisims that make the cells that build us back up and raise our body back from the anemic state that it's in.
We have just beat the living **** out of our liver cells by killing the cells infected with a nasty virus. I think it needs a rest too.
I personally wouldn't do either of those things for AT LEAST 6 months after tx is over. I took a mulitvitamin WITH iron and ate like a PIG. I "felt" a LOT better mentally after about 2-3 weeks. I was a LOT stronger after 3 months and resumed all my "normal" activities then. Somehow, it just didn't "feel" like it was all that long. I needed that recovery time to get myself back together. I was in NO hurry to get back into any kind of a "rat race" kind of living again. As a matter of fact, I STILL have not gone back to that kind of life. I have slowed myself down and now take time to actually ENJOY life now. I actually control the life I lead now instead of letting it control me. The Tx experience gave me that.....and I really treasure that change. Absolutely NOTHING bothers me much at all anymore.
God help us, and thanks again. Wish I felt better to contribute more, hope to soon.

My question is, will this be hard to heal because of the tx. My doctor sent me to the ER to get a tetenitis shot and a rx.for antibiotics. Has any one ever had a problem like this. If it gets to infected Dr said they might have to stop tx.
Does anyone know any tricks to help keep it from getting infected or will the antibiotics do the job.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

and actually, unless it is a gushing arterial bleed.which of course needs immediate pressure, . it is better to let a wound bleed little then clean out and bleed again just a bit.. gets some of the germs out, rather than trapping them in.
Best thing is to keep it clean and dry, keep it covered with a breatheable gauze bandage, to keep dirt, germs out, yet allow air to get to it to prevent other microbes growing.
Change the bandage several times daily, always Wash hands first, clean wound with peroxide.pat dry with sterile gauze, and until it starts healing it is usually best to use an antibiotic ointment on it.... (when changing it, be sure to keep the bandage sterile, in or on wrapper.. coz if you lay it on another surface you could end up putting another germ into the wound..( and ya don't need any more germs in there !!) I wouldn't put a plastic type bandaid on.. depending on the size of the bite.. there are some great new breatheable bandaids, but especially at night, I'd just tape a thin gauze over it.
Also, just incase you don't know... IF you ever see a red streak leading from a wound, or wound get sexcessively reddened or warm.. get to a dr immediately! it is a sign of septic infection.. the infection is getting into the blood stream.. NOT GOOD !! This is especially inportant for us, because of the disease and the tx effects on our systems.
Please do not take this wrong, I am not assuming you don't know, I am just being thorough. .this is basic wound care, and the information which may seem..".like, DUH!!" to some, others don't think about. People take sterile gauze out of the wrapper and lay it on the sink or counter., don't wash their hands before, or will leave the same bandage on for days, get it wet, and leave it.. etc.. and many don't know about further infection... Ever wondered WHY so many staph infections are picked up in the hosptial??? because someone didn't follow aseptic technique.. it is every where.. we are sick enough and our systems are not at their best and they handle everything slower, especially if you have any liver damage..My motto is, "better safe than sorry " it is easier to prevent than to cure!! just trying to give good info. ;)

you have fun now......tee hee hee
Thanks Deb
Silvermoon: Good advice bares repeating, I think highly of you and your advice. Thank you Deb
amerabrit: So sorry to hear about your husband, Luckly no stitches needed here. And I think I read on an earlier post that silvermoon is a retired nurse. I agree, It's great to have her here.
Hope your having a nice weekend....Deb
In nursing school my nursing instructors 'honored' me by deeming me a "NATURAL nurse" because I had instincts that can't be taught... I'm a regular 'earth mama'. always taking care of everyone!!
I love medical science, nursing.. and tend to look at the whole picture.. the whole person..not just one piece. I think it requires thinking ' outside the box'. ( Hep C certainly does!!)
Anyway, folks.. when I answer or give info, I tend to do so thoroughly, rather than 'assume' certaing things are understood.. less confusion that way.. .. just can't seem to get the 'nurse' out of me !! LOL.. I just try to share what I know that might be of help..
Ya'll have a great day !!
