~~~~~ GREAT NEWS~~~~ (...and use for other post)
by shebee, Sep 23, 2004 12:00AM
Hi all,
Hubby had dr. appointment today.  His platelets have always hovered around 20-30 for about 2 years.  His ast & alt have always been over 100 most of the time.
Last test his platelets jumped to an all time high of 98!
..and his ast & alt dropped some.
This last test  shows that his ast is at 76....
AND HIS ALT IS AT 43 (normal range!)
This is such good news, eh?
I think that this time around he has kicked the hep.
He'll stay on tx til December.  Next month another Heptimax is scheduled.
Good bye Pegintron...pegasys....and infergen...and RIBA...
I feel so encouraged!
Best wishes to you all...
Your,
Shebee
Hi, Sheba ;)
You'll feel like a queen, and he'll feel like a king if our wishes for you come true!  Hope this is the final turning point to victory.
To: how am I doing?
Much better now...I am on vacation for about 3 weeks.  I had such great plans, but instead I have decided to clean house.
Yesterday, I thought that I should go back to work.  Somehow, in some funny way, it seemed easier.  The grass really is greener on the other side.
Hubby is not up to doing much other than sleeping, doing tx, and an occasional odd job.  This drives him crazy!  He is a workaholic trapped in a drugged body.  LOL!
I am going to take a day or two and drive somewhere with or without my family. ROTFL!!!  It depends if hubby is in RibaRage mode or not.  I have learned to ignore him when he is in this mode....and my only reply is, "Yes, DEAR. yOU ArE rIGHT..." :)
Yes, today I feel on top of the world.  I am going to hold on to that feeling for a while.
Thank you all,
Shebee
Great news.....congratulations to hubby and you.
I like your attitude too....LOL....a short "get away" sounds like it will be rejuvinating for you.....I think you should save your vacation time so you can really enjoy it with hubby down the road.  Can you "bank" your time accrued?  Have a great time on your short trip......enjoy.
That is great news. I'm very happy for you all. Was it the Infergen that finally kicked it? If so, I'm even more happy because I just started my infergen and ribo tx last night. I don't feel too bad today. I had the rigors this am, but they weren't as bad as the first time with the Peg. I have a slight headache, and a little nausea, and pain, but that's it. Can anyone tell me if it will get much worse than this?
Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement.  Because of many of you, hubby kept on tx over and over again.  The ones who keep on trying seem to get cured with a few exceptions.
jodi...daily infergen 15 & riba.  The infergen is not new stuff, but comes from a company that is smaller, thus less advertised. ???   Also, daily shots are a drag.  It is much easier to do one shot a week, and this probably keeps many more people on tx.  They are now trying to release a peglated version of infergen, but personally, I think that the daily shots are easier.
After hubby doing the pegintron, pegasys, and infergen, my vote would be for the infergen.  I think that the anti-freeze in the pegintron & pegasy have their own "sides."  I have noticed that with the daily infergen, he does not get a red whelp on his side, unless he gets a "bad" batch.  A few boxes were killers and one shot would take him out for at least two days.  Last week he got ahold of a Killer Box.  It now has 3 shots left in it; the box is marked with a RED X! :)
Best wishes...and we still pray for your daughter.
hope2Bok
Daily Infergen & Riba...what a cocktail?
Hubby still burns with high fever every night...and rigors are common.  Sometimes he seems to get a "bad" batch.  Then he backs off for a day.  WITHOUT HIS DOCTOR'S APPROVAL...I might add.
The infergen is easier in some ways, but tx is never fun.  He has good days and bad...never quite knowing when.
I do know this...his liver is healing.  He is producing platelets again.  His alt & ast levels have dropped over 100 points.  He does not look green anymore. I don't see death on his face.
I would love to see a liver biop!  LOL!   BUT, I'll just bet he won't opt for one.  ROTFL!
Also...he stopped using procrit about 5 months ago.  His doctor has been having trouble with other patients on infergen & procrit and took them off of it.  (I would by all means do procrit on occasion if it keeps you on tx.)  Procrit seemed to knock him out for a week.  His white blood count is still low...and red count too...a bit.  I think that your body will compensate somehow.  Even his doctor is clueless.  LOL!  All in all, his blood work looks ok.
If you miss a shot or two, don't dwell on it.  Just start again.
If hubby had to miss a shot, he would still keep on the Riba and then get right back on infergen.
I really like our doc & nurse.  They are committed to the long haul and are trying to cure my hubby.  They also kept him on tx with platelets as low as 19-20 for months...all other doctors seem to panic and reduce to 1/2 dose or take their patients OFF tx.  Low platelets due to hepC must be different...somehow?
All of the doctors seem clueless.  LOL!  They are "guessing," too.
He has learned when to take the riba & infergen so that he can sleep during the night.  Morning 7am...riba, Shot at noon, riba at 5-7pm.  If he takes it any other way, he goes into 2-day "no sleep" cycles.
Just stay on the infergen...I think that if you take interferon long enough, your liver has a chance to heal...and start fighting the hep...and win.  (time will tell, eh?)
Best wishes to you...You have much to give to others.
You will touch so many in your lifetime.  If you give up, much will be left undone.
Your,
Shebee
....and while we are still alive, there is hope.
That is very encouraging news and you two should be thrilled. Congratulations on the great progress after a long and hard road. Good luck. Mike
These news are so exciting to read!
if I would have known about consensus interferon when trying to make my choice to treat my geno 1a, I would have chosen it over Pegasys.  It showed better results for our genotype in the studies I read. But at the time I started reading the forum everyone seemed to be on one peg or other...I should mention it once in a while for the newbies trying to decide.
so glad to hear of the improvement in platelets.  ive been following you two for a long time.  it looks like you will be a winner!
   i treated in 2003.  just went for my one year post tx. pcr this week.  enzymes and CBC came back in normal range.  waiting for pcr now.   6 mon pcr was neg.      my platelets were also low from the hepc when i started tx.  but fortunately they did not drop dangerously low during tx.  which i really feared.
    im doing more all the time.
