< 5 PCR results!!!! § TSH

by layla, Oct 23, 2004 12:00AM
My doc called me last night, yup personally on a Friday night to inform me of my PCR results and congratulate me. What a releif! I know my chances of making SVR at 6 months are now over 90%. It will make the waiting easier. My hepatologist was only going to do a PCR at 6 months but my regular doc, an internal med doc said if I wanted one at 3 months he would order it along with my thyroid labs. It was driving me nuts to wait the 6 months. For those of you who don't know or remember I was 1a and did not clear at 3 months although I did have a 2 log drop. I did 71 weeks of full tx, (well I did reduce the riba to 800 the last two months). I do think the extended tx was a factor for me. 48 weeks form clearing is what my hepatologist recommends. Now if I get a new job it will really make my week...Thanks to all for the support I have received here for such a long time.

My doc did order a higher dose of my thyroid meds. He said what is happening is my throid is continuing to burn out so when I get a dose increase I start to feel great then as my thyroid worsens I start to feel bad again which happened again this last week. He says I may experience it again but he thinks one more increase would be the most I would need. The average end dosage is 110 and I will now be at 100 now. The progression is different for each person and it seems mine has been pretty fast He is shooting of a TSH under 1.5. I often have though it is residual tx causing me to feel bad but after each levoxyl dose increase I feel great so now beleive for me it's now all thyroid. LL

BRAVO!   Fantastic news!   You're a real trooper, Layla, and a big inspiration to the rest of us following behind you.  Thank you for all your caring and kindness while you've fought your own hard battle.

Just a little clarification-- you first went undetected at 23 weeks?

And just to second Mike's comment about your doctor.  You have a good  one, and it sounds like you're close to getting this thyroid business resolved.   Life's just going to get better and better from here on out.

YeeHawwwwwwwwwwww!  That's a big Congratulations from Texas.  What a relief for you to know you are still undetectable and have such a very HIGH chance at SVR.  Can you say "C U R E".

Good luck to you.

Congratulations!  You really stuck it out, and it's encouraging to see that the extended tx can work.  Hopefully docs won't allow insurance co.s to stop slow responders at 12 weeks tx, these days.  And to all you extenders, "my hat's off to you."

Cuteus, RAL, you are soon going to get off the tx; wish you all the best, and Layla, I'm really happy you made it.

Congratulations. 71 weeks and clear!!! On to 6 months month clear and a new life.

good luck on your job search.

Thanks so much for the congrats. It's amazing how everyone reacts differently. When I was told I was surprised that I wasn't even excited. I was more concerned with my TSH. Delayed reaction. After reading all these post I finally reacted with a good relief cry. Thanks again for all your support. Funny I had the same reaction on my first undetectable at 6 months. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. LL

Raheem, let us know. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and wishing you the best..SVR

Califia. Tp clarify I was clear on my 24 week test but I did not finish the very last week of tx because that week I developed pretty severe perigheral nueropathy. If I had known what I know today I would have gotten a PCR monthly after the detectable at 3 months. I think I was probably clear at about 4 months and could have countd 48 weeks from that point but the doc tested me again at 6 months so we went from there to decide how long I would extend.

Ral. Hang in there, it's almost over.

This is terrific news! I can understand your first reaction being concern about your TSH.  Thyroid imbalance affects EVERY CELL in your body.   It's a great relief to get it normalized so you can think straight again feel back to normal.  You have been through a lot and I really admire you for extending your tx and beating back the virus.  Congratulations!  caruu

Hey RAHEEM remember...I'm right behind you with my 6 months testing.  I didn't have the 3 months done (after much much delibeeration with myselfA) so my test at the end on NOVEMBER will be long awaited and very much anticipated.  Mhhhhh...wonder what it will come back like?

Come on over and you and I can cook up a huge pot of 'WORRY STEW' and serve it to our dear members of this forum for the next 30 days.

What do you think about your test that's coming up.  Do you think of it every day...every minute?

Ah yes, remember when we were on the meds and posting bout the same thing bout the same time?  WHEW not that was something to WORRY about!!

Congratulations!!!!  Sorry I'm late to the party, but I have been tracking down other medical issues for the time being.  I am so glad that you did the extended tx.  I know that doing 72 weeks in my case, was the only way that I achieved SVR.  For us late responders it seems to be a great strategy, and is very rapidly gaining in popularity throughout the general medical community.

I think your odds of 6 month undetected (and SVR) are really more like 96% or so, with a 3 month undetected result.  You can breathe easier now, even though you will be nervous again at the 6 month PCR, as we all are....Your chances are now fantastic for a real cure!  Go celebrate, cry awhile, laugh and sing....then sit back an savor the feeling of monumental accomplishment ..in the face of great adversity and suffering.  You have earned your stripes in true grit, and your experience, nasty and painful as it was, will serve you well in your future life ...in confronting and overcoming obstacles and disappointments...and in providing you with the momentum and confidence to succeed at whatever you wish.

My very best wishes to you for the long, long term!
