first shot and benadryl

by sgabb, Nov 12, 2004 12:00AM
Hello everyone,  my first shot is coming up in a few hours and I had a quick question.  When my Doc started me on the Tx raod it seems he told me to take tylenol for the first night and to also take Benadryl.  I asked if it was the allergy stuff and he said yes.  I bought tylenol and Benadryl, but now that I am sitting here I am not sure if this is the conversation I had or not...  Boy brain fog and I havent even started. Does anyone know about this?  Thanks, will check in just before THE SHOT. Hope we all have a good weekend...  Bestest...

benadryl is an OTC antihistamine often packaged as a "sleep aid" due to the drowsiness it induces for most people -- the doc probably wanted to make sure you got a good night's sleep.....rest well...

Shawn,,,I don't think I would eat anything tonite if I was you before going to bed.  I would see how you do tonite and then after this,,,,You should be ok for eating late.  Take a couple of the tylenol about 2 hours before the shot and then if you wake up in middle of night,,,and feeling achy or feverish,,,could take a couple of more.  I hope everything goes good for you!

Well my Daughter just showed up, she washed her hands and is calling me to the needle. I am going to take my 2 tylenol now, and get my shot, so I guess there is really no reason to post anything else about these tonight.  Feel free to use this post for anything else...  there is my daughter again...  off to slay the Dragon...  Hope we all have a good night.

Just the stress of starting tx is very hard on a person. I think your doc is trying to make this as comfortable as possible for you. That stress is most likely also a factor in your experienceing some mental fog and confusion just before tx. I hope you had a good night. It does get easier to do each week. Let us know how you did last night. LL

We are right in here together...my 4th shot last night also had no probs...even a smoother application.  I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Glad you are doing well!

Just a note on eating late. I am an early riser and early to bed. I use to like my main meal of the day to be a large dinner, as I learned about living a healthy liver lifestyle I found out that you should eat dinner or whatever you call your last meal of the day about  5-Hrs before going to bed.

Here is a link to a great web site that has lots of information about a liver friendly diet.

                  Good Luck

Did my first shot yesterday at 3:30 and had no problems. Took two  Tyenol before and again about 9:00 just a little headacke. Woke up abut 3:00 again with a little headacke and took two more Tyenol. Getting ready for breakfast now still small headacke, ready to start on the ribas. Shawn hope your first went this easy too.

made it through...  had a few sx's flu feeling real bad.  mostly felt like I was kicked in the head and am wombly.  only get this feeling when I take the Riba.  aside from that, I think the benadryl helped.  My wife stayed up to give me 2 more at the opointed time and I think that helped too.  Thank you to those of you who are blazing the trail ahead for those of us just entering.  It helps alot.  I hope everyone had a good weekend and may we all have an easy week ahead.

I have been doing the injections for almost 1 month, every day, first day was bad, feel pretty tired every day but am able to work.  I go to bed pretty early but that is ok.  I have been trying to walk every day and make myself eat to keep healthy.  I itch all the time and it drives me crazy.  I use the benedryl cream, do not want to take oral benadryl makes me too tired, any one have any suggestions.  I will be starting the riboviran next week, not looking forward to it but know it must be done, any suggestions?  I am bound and determined to work am not going to let this get me down.  At least I am going to try.  Thanks for suggestions.

they started you on Tx without riba? have not heard that one here yet...

if you don't get many responses in this thread post it higher up, for more to see.

I basically took a pain killer for the duration of tx, in order to continue to work.  Riba will make you anemic, and fatigued. Make sure your dr intervenes with your sides.

best to you
