Actigall/ursodiol--rash

by debsus, Dec 26, 2004 12:00AM
just diagnosed with NASH (liver biopsy) my

ALT/AST enzymes were brought to normal with actigall/ursodiol. I developed a rash -- small red bumps with blister at tip -- mostly on lower legs but they do appear all over and itch horribly. My internist said to stop the medication -- she and dermatologist think the rash maybe a reaction to either the medication or the liver disease. Two months later the rash is much better (and cortisone shots into the eruptions) but I still get some eruptions -- have been told that it can take a long time to clear the skin if it is a drug reaction.

Anyone have such a reaction?  If so -- what did you do?

I fear what my enzyme results will be when I retest in a couple of months.

I was placed on Urso and after about 3 days I felt like I was shitting straight battery acid. Felt like I needed to wipe with a sno cone. Doc said it was a side effect, as Urso is synthetic bile salt. The rash you are referring to sounds like the one I developed about halfway into tx. It went away after about a month, but came back 6 weeks post-tx. Again, it went away on its own. Mine didn't coincide with the Urso, but who knows? No rhyme or reason to this disease or cure, huh? Best of luck....
