Bilirubin in urine...

by laurel30, Jan 18, 2005 12:00AM
My doctor said I had a "little bilirubin" in my urine.  What can cause this?  He said nothing serious... but I am a worry wart.  I had a normal liver workup in October and a normal cat scan.

I have no gall bladder.

Should I be really worried?

Thanks!

Margaret

I found this about it.

If the bile ducts are obstructed, direct bilirubin will build up to a high enough level that some of it will escape from the liver into the blood. If the levels are high enough, some of it will also appear in the urine. Only direct bilirubin appears in the urine. Increased direct bilirubin usually means that the biliary (liver secretion) ducts are obstructed.

Are you taking extra vitamin B?  Sometimes high doses can cause this, too.

My Dr. has me take B-complex to get rid of excess bilirubin. I have compensated cirrhosis, and without the B-complex the bilirubin level climbs.
