Home testing kit for Hep C antibodies

by Fubarcat, Feb 09, 2005 12:00AM
Haven't posted in a very long time, but wanted to let everyone know that I heard an ad on the radio this morning that the State of Florida is offering free home testing kits for Hep C antibodies.  Obviously, this doesn't give viral load info, it just provides a result for whether or not you are carrying the antibodies.  It is a simple finger stick procedure.  I called the toll free number to get more info and also told them I was very grateful that they were getting the word out about this and it was the first time I had ever heard anything public about Hep C.  The ad was kind of silly - something about someone who had used IV drugs only on one or two occasions and now he had Hep C.  I thought it was silly because that might tend to make people believe the only way they can get Hep C is thru IV drug use and also tends to group Hep C carriers as "junkies", but the ad did go on to say that there were several other ways to contract the disease.

Anyway, I was so happy to actually hear an ad on the radio about Hep C and to give info regarding free home antibody testing kits, I wanted to let everyone know, that maybe, one of these years, more info about Hep C will be available to the general public.
