This is also known as a tubal pregnancy. Its where the egg fertilizes in the  fallopian tube instead of the uterus. With most ectopics you will have very bad sharp pain in the lower quadrant of the left or right side. If you suspect you have an ectopic pregnancy go to a doctor or a local ER. There is no way to save an ectopic pregnancy and it can be fatal if you dont seek  medical attention. Hope this answers any questions.

Do you have an ectopic, or are you just wondering?  I had one a few months ago and I didn't have sharp pains until I was 3 months along.  Nothing was ever seen in the uterus, not even fluid, even when my hCG was above 2500.  Also, my hCG did not rise at the rate it should the whole period of my pregnancy.  The doctor misdiagnosed me as a miscarriage 3 times and told me there was no need to be seen even though I was in horrible pain when I spoke to him and I had not discharged any tissue, so I ended up bleeding internally for a week before I passed out and my husband took me to the hospital for emergency surgery.  My tube ended up rupturing and was removed, and the pain was horrible.  I had a couple blood transfusions and was in the hospital for a week.  I do not wish this on anyone, so my advice to you is if you are worried about this happenning to you, please insist on frequent hCG tests along with ultrasounds to make sure there is a sac seen in the uterus and the levels are rising at the appropriate rate.  If there is any doubt insist on more tests, and if your levels continue to rise, but no sac is seen insist on laparoscopic surgery to find the baby.  Most inportantly, trust your own instincts.  You know your body well.  Even though I had never been pregnant I knew something was wrong.  Good luck, and let me know how things go.

i ahd an ectopic pregnancy 3 months ago. i also had no sharp pains and nothing showed on a scan the only reason that it was picked up was i had a sharp pain in my chest which knocked the wind out of me and a dull ache in my groin. i went to see an out of hours doctor and he sent me to gynocology who monitiored my blood for the next 48hours they discovered that my hcg was not doubling like it should so they preped me for a laporoscopy to see where my pregnancy was. when i came round i was told that it was ectopic and my left tube was removed on top of this i was also told that my fertililty would be afftected and i may not be able to concieve for an avaerage of 2 years. this left me feeling devestated not only for my loss but the thought of not being able to have another pregnancy. i was amazed to find out that 2months later i was prgnant again and this itme its in the right place and i'm now 8weeks along and have seen and heard the babys heartbeat. i still get very scared of every little ache and pain and still feel the guilt for the child i  lost before. its been a very emotional preganacy so far but it is possible to fall very quickly after haveing the surgery so make sure that if you are in doubt that you may be pregnant then do a test imediatly and see your doctors stright away to have it confirmed along with an early scan to confirm its in the right place.
