Bicornuate Uterus, Irreg. Gest. Sac, Low Heartbeat - Update

by TanteMilly, Apr 24, 2003 12:00AM
This is a quick update - I wrote in a couple of weeks when I first found out I was pregnant and had a bicornuate uterus. My ultrasound had shown an irregular gestational sac and the fetal heartbeat was only 80. The doctor had said I probably would miscarry. However - I haven't! Things have progressed very well - so far. I'm 8 weeks, 4 days and the heart beat has finally jumped to 164 and although the gestational sac is irregular, the baby is still growing as it should be - I guess since my uterus is irregular - it would be kind of hard for the gestational sac to be perfectly round. Anyways - there is always hope - my chances of miscarrying were pretty high but there is a reason for everything - and I'm feeling quite positive.

If anyone knows anything about delivery and a bicornuate uterus - please let me know (my uterus is split into two very distinct halves - the baby seems to have chosen the smaller half as well. Any input would be helpful as I'm leary of searching for info on the net - it always seems depressing.

Thank-you for your support and kind words!

Just very quickly, cause i am getting ready to go out the door, you will be at high risk for premature labor.  You should be followed closely by someone experienced in high risk OB.

You may also need a c/section for delivery, but that depends on exactly how/where the split is, and what position the baby gets wedged into close to term.

Thank-you Christie - I've already set up an appointment with the best OBGYN in the area (he wasn't accepting patients but made an exception for me). I appreciate the knowledge - it makes it easier to be aware of possible signs of pregnancy and things I should do or avoid.
