45 § pregnant with low HCG question

by pielady, Sep 16, 2003 12:00AM
I turned 45 years old today.  I found out on Saturday that I was pregnant.  We have 2 sons in college, but were thrilled with the news, since we tried for another 7 years ago, but had an ectopic, then a miscarriage.  My last period was Aug. 19th, so I'm not very far along at all.  My period was technically supposed to start today (although I'm usually around day 26, which was Saturday).  Anyway, the blood test they did yesterday showed an HCG level of 86, which the nurse said was very low, depending on how far along I am.  They will do more blood work tomorrow to see if it goes up or down.  My question is, has anyone else had these numbers at my stage and everything turned out okay?

It's really too hard to tell until you get another level 48 hours later.  My HCG was 17 but then 48 hours later it was 172.  you could be very early in pregnancy so until you have that next result, it's hard to guage.  Best of luck to you and CONGRATS!

Congratulations!

You also have given me hope, because I am also in my 40's (42)

and have no children, and would love to have that happen for me.

But I have notice the last couple of weeks, that when I get up in the morning and start to move around, and do the normal things like feed the pets, make coffee, whatever, and the weather has been very warm around here, I start to sweat or get a hot flash, it lasts for about half an hour or so, then I usually don't feel that again for the rest of the day.

But I seem to only really notice this, especially when it is really humid and warm out.

We are about 45 minutes north of N.Y.C.

My last period started on August 12th, and the next one should of came on September 8th, and it has not started yet.

I am finished with wasting my money in buying the ovulation kits and home pregnancy kits.

Because after so many for so long, I had never got a result that I was about to ovulate and I did ovulate, and the pregnancy tests has given me negative results and I was.

I also look at it if one take an hpt and it negative then your menses will probably begin in time, and if it is positive, then the person usually has to go the doctor anyway, and they always take their own tests, plus they are much more accurate.

To me they are a waste of money.

That is just for me, They may work very well for others.

Congrats again.

Valeria,  If you are not normally a whole week late, I would probably "waste" another few bucks for a test kit. I know how frustrating it is to keep buying them and keep seeing a negative.   I found that they now have an EPT that works up to 5 days before your period, where as the last one I bought was only 4 days before.  They also had a TV ad today for a new home test that actually shows the words, "pregnant" or "not pregnant", instead of the old lines or plus signs.  I don't know how soon this new test actually works, but what a great idea. I had an ectopic a few years ago, and the home test showed negative, even though I was 2 days late.  Good luck, I will be praying for a positive result for you.

Thank you cheryl, I can use all the prayers I can get.

My sister who is also named cheryl, she is a little older than you are now, but back when she had her two kids in the early 80's, she was the same way as I am, meaning she was months late for her period, yet home tests always showed negative, and it finally took a blood test from her doctor for it to show positive.

She had the missed period, felt bloating or heaviness, aches or light cramps and twinges, frequent urination, I have been having all of that, I have to say I don't have any breast symtoms, discomfort or swelling or tenderness.

As I understand it that is usually the first thing women do notice, if they should be pregnant.

I just bought some of the new clearblue easy tests that actually have the words "pregnant" or "not pregnant" well, they will be coming in the mail. Funny thing, I bought them off of eBay, but couldn't wait for them to come in so I went to the store and bought some Answer tests and tested positive that night!! Answer reads at 25, which is about the lowest of any test you can get otc : )

Don't be mislead by some tests, some don't even ready until 150!! I beleive Fact Plus is one of them : ) You can buy those expensive tests like EPT, but in reality, they are just as sensitive as the Answer ones and the Answer ones are almost half the price!! I got a 2 pack for under 10 bucks and they weren't even on sale!!

Good luck!!

By the way, if you aren't that far along, don't worry about the numbers : ) On average it can take up to 10 days past ovulation for the egg to implant and only then does the hgc start to be produced. The most indicative results will be 2 hcg levels done 48-72 hours apart done by the same lab.

Just to let any of you ladies interested in the digital tests, there is a seller on ebay selling 3pack tests for $11.99 + shipping. Still much cheaper than you will find in the store! Just enter "digital pregnancy test" in the search field : )

I just read that you had your HCG come back at 17 and then it went up later.  My HCG came back at 12 10dpo and then 27 13dpo.  I have to go to the dr tomorrow to get another test done. I feel like symtoms that I had are not here anymore and I just want to know how did you situation turn out?  My info below:

LMP 8/27

Cycle: 31-32 days

Ovulation: 9/14-9/16

last sex: 9/19

I think implantation around: 9/22 (not sure though)

HCG: 9/26 12

HCG: 9/29 27

What do you or anyone think about this?

Thanks!!

Having low HCG can be very frustrating.  I had my 1st son 9 years ago at age 25 and didn't know for sure until I was 3 months along that I was pregnant.  That's when a midwife finally said I should have a blood test done.  I had used home tests and also had 3 tests done at 2 different doctor's offices... all of which came up negative.  He turned out to be perfectly healthly because I took the precaution of going ahead and assuming that I was pregnant.  Which is what I'm doing now.  For the 2nd time in my life, my period is late... 2 weeks now, and the test shows nothing.  I have a blood test scheduled for the end of next week with my doctor, so I'll know then... So don't panic or think all is well if the test shows negative.  You could still be pregnant and if you're not and your period is still late, that could be signs of other medical problems that need attention.  So please make sure you see a doctor either way.  Hope this helps someone :)
