It is also safe to use colace or another form of stool softeners if needed. If it is absolutely necessary, you can use Milk of Magnesia, but not too frequently. Despite some previous posts on this issue, even overuse of this medication can cause bowel dependence.
One great non medication option is also a glass of white grape and pear juice, seems to work for everyone I know (pg or not) without the hard to stomach taste of prune juice : )
And as always, keep her drinking lots of water as that can be the biggest help overall.
