Do you mean how many years does a person ovulate?

by Melissa Prevost, Nov 21, 2003 12:00AM
No I mean how many days in a month does one ovulate

by Sweetnesss, Nov 21, 2003 12:00AM
Based on "Taking charge of your Fertility", "ovulation may take place over approximately 24hrs, but just once per cycle.  during those 24hrs, one or more eggs may be released (as in the case of fratenal twins). but once ovulation has occured it is virtually impossible for a woman to release another egg until the next cycle".

she gave a sensible example

"have u ever heard of a woman getting pregnant on monday , and then again the following friday, and then two weeks later on thursday?  certainly not, because once a woman ovulates, her body cannot release any more eggs that cycle".  Hope this helps

i can't explain it but i do beleive u can have a double pregnany.

i'll try to get some good info on it.

I believe Melissa may be talking about the phenomena of "superfecundation".

This is the fertilization of multiple ova released during the same menstrual cycle, by different genetic fathers.

Melissa, this occurs when a woman releases 2 or more eggs at a single time, she has sex lets say on a Monday with one man, and on Tues with another.  She can get pregnant with a baby by each man.

There is a very famous example of a caucasion woman who had sex with her husband and then was raped by a black man several days later.  She became pregnant with twins, one of whom was black, the other white (and proven to be her husbands child while the black infant was the product of the rapist).

It can happen, but it is rare.  But, you don't go around ovulating at many different times during a month.

You simply release multiple eggs at a time.

Actually, that is not true, about only once releasing multiple eggs.

"The researchers found about 40 per cent of women have the potential to ovulate more than once during a cycle."

Key word here is POTENTIAL.

I doubt that many actually do, but I do stand corrected.

However, superfecundation is defined thusly:   1  :  successive fertilization of two or more ova from the same ovulation esp. by different sires.

I was just commenting on the fact that multiple ovulations can occur outside of the 'normal' 24 hour time frame.

Ok, I was wondering  is possible for a woman to get pregnant when she is not ovulating?

by jenb*2008, Aug 19, 2007 10:23AM
I have a weird one.  I took an OPK (ovulation predictor kit) test last friday and it was positive and then I took another one this friday cause I actually had syptoms of ovulation and it was positive again.  We've been trying to get pregnant for about a year and had sex a few times with the two seperate positive OPK tests.  Do you think it worked?
