Implantation Concerns

by englwsc03, Nov 27, 2003 12:00AM
Hi, and thanks ahead of time for your attention and time if you do indeed decide to write back (I pray I will find some advice). I am 22 years old and am 6w4d pregnant with my first pregnancy. I had an ultrasound to determine the cause of some bleeding, which turned out to be postintercourse bleeding. However, the ultrasound revealed that my uterus is shaped abnormally; my OB didn't use the term "bicornuate" but it's sort of like that... it has corners instead of being round and in the corners the lining is thin. the pregnancy will be fine if the embryo implanted somewhere OTHER THAN in the corners, but if it is in the corner, I will need a D&C. I pray God will not present me with that situation, but I am scared *to death*... I have an ultrasound next week. My question is, at what time during pregnancy can the ultrasound determine WHERE the embryo implanted?

Thanks so  much to you all,

Holly

I'm sorry you have to worry like this. My prayers are with you. Can they not tell where it's implanted by now? I believe they usually implant in the upper half of the uterus but not sure what it is called, sorry. Best of luck to you. Keep us posted!

Hi,First I want to tell you that my Prayers are with you,But I sincerely believe that all will just fine with your baby, and CONGRATULATIONS also.If I am Sounding Optimistic it's because I feel like I am hearing or re-living the exact same experience,I had gone through,my uterus is also on The same as yours, unfortunately I have it on the tip of my Toungue, what the exact name for it is,However;13 yrs ago I went through a very simular pregnancy,I had been Implanted due to the difficulties of my Husbands reversal vasectomy,My point is that was 13 years ago and we have a beautiful, healthy 13 years old.Today with all the technologies, and if you have a great doctor, than I strongly believe all will be well.I wish you the best of luck,if I remember correctly, your already 6w4d so already things are looking positive,go by each day, don't stress yourself about what tomorrow or next wek brings,be very greatful for Just TODAY,LIVE&LOVE every MOMENT because it does go by faster than we think. Also,I don't Know what they recommended for you.I would recommend alot of bed restfor your first trimester, take things easy, avoid any heavy lifting or moving, andreally try to avoid stressful people and situations.I'll say a prayer for you.keep in touch with your pg and let us know how things are progressing,Remember to Always"THINK POSITIVE",Try not to worry!I Know,How hard that'll be because for your first pregnacy I believe WE all go on this Worry path,WE WORRY about Every little thing,ha,ha,ha.Just Relax Sweetie, and Enjoy Every Moment

Sincerely:BabyBlues11....Best Of Luck!Toronto,Canada

I would consult with a specialist in high risk pregnancy before I would interrupt a pregnancy based on an ultrasound report.

This is not an extreme emergency, there is time to insist your doc gives you a referral and another opinion, especially from   a specialist in high risk pregnancy, would be very helpful.

You may be referring to a "cornual" or interstitial pregnancy--it isn't clear from your description, but it could be that is what the doctor means.  This is where a pregnancy implants right where the tube joins the uterus.  These types of pregnancy can be very difficult to detect, and are considered a variation of an ectopic pregnancy.  They are extremely rare.

Because the embryo implants in the area where there is SOME myometrium, it can develop furthur than an ectopic in the tube does.  Cornual pregnancies usually rupture from 12-16 weeks, and a rupture of this type of pregnancy is exceedingly dangerous.

So, listen carefully to your doctor, get a second opinion if your doctor feels there is time.  If you have bleeding or pain, see your doctor right away or go to an ER.

I couldn't help researching it furthur after re-reading your post.  I hope everything works out well for you.
