Atrial Septal defect / patent foramen ovale while 33 weeks pregnant

by tobjaikai, Jan 05, 2004 12:00AM
I have recently had an echocardiogram with a diaganosis of ASD or patent foramen ovale (are they not the same thing?).  It appears that I have a hypo-kinetic left ventricle unusual due to the fact that I am 33 weeks pregnant.  It also states to investigate possible cardiomyopathy.  What exactly does this mean with me being pregnant.  I am dizzy and out of breath with a rapid heart beat 24/7!  I can't even get up to go to another room without feeling like i need to pass out.  My doctor has set up appointment with a cardiologist.  But I would like to know what exactly that information means.  I have looked everything up, and I can't quite relate one to the other.  Does this mean an increase chance of c-section?  Do you think they will treat this while I am pregnant?  They say it is small and this is what the paper says:

RVD less than 2.7cm

LVIDS 3.3cm     LVIDD 4.9cm

Ao 3.3cm        LA 3.4cm

PW .8cm         IVS .8cm

Could anyone shed some light on this please??

Thanks, Jaimee

Unfortunately, we are not physicians here, and can't give you any medical advice.  This would be a good question for the HEART forum, but even the doctor there can't give you any specific advice, only your cardiologist can do that.

Good luck to you.
