Can too much heat prevent ovulation or fertilization?

by desperate-in-the-desert, Aug 01, 2004 12:00AM
Hi, I'm in Kuwait and I am trying to conceive but I'm afraid that the extreme heat may be an obstacle for me. My spouse and I have to be out in the heat about every 4th or 5th day for 12 hours at a time. I know that testicles need to keep cool, but how will the heat affect my body? Any advice or knowledge on the subject matter would be greatly appreciated. We are eagerly trying to get pregnant. Thanks, DITD.

Women who live in the desert day after day and are exposed to the harsh heat as a way of life have no trouble getting pregnant, so there shouldn't be a reason you can't either. KEEPING that pregnancy is another story. Are you in a situation where if conception occurs you can "take a break" for a while? Stay cool, hydrated, and relaxed? If not, then getting pregnant NOW may not be the best option.

That being said, sitting in a hot tub/spa WHILE pregnant is not good either. And as has been said on here before, if you are TRYING to get pregnant, always asume and behave as if you are.

My advice - get a second opinion. And not from another doctor in the same clinic. Best of luck to you - try not to worry - just get that second opinion as soon as you can.  :)
