I just rented one!!  It arrived today!  I'm so excited.  It took me 3 different tries to lay down and be patient.  i read the instructions too, that helped?!  Finally found my little baby's heartbeat.  there is NO better sound, it was great.

Personally I wouldn't use it more than once a week or so?  That's my gut feeling.  I don't think anyone really knows if it can hurt or not, but why take the chance?  I just got it so when I'm nervous and still have 2 weeks before my appointment, I can listen.  I think It's ok more often later in pregnancy, but early on I wouldn't risk it.

Try and use it for emergencies only, but that's just my opinion.  I would never forgive myself if something happened and I was listening every day!  I would always think that was why..

Did you rent one?  momttc

I do have one, but I can't hear a h/b yet.  I just turned 9 wks. How far along were you when you could hear the h/b??

oh gosh, I'm just starting my 13th week.  You probably won't hear it for a while.  At my 10 week appointment the dr didn't even try, she said it's not easy to find this early and it makes mothers nervous.  I had an u/s that day so knew it was beating.. that's all i needed to know.

It was hard to find that's for sure.  You have to hold the transducer up and down and rock it.  don't move it, just change the tilt?  that's how I finally found it.  AFTER I READ THE DARN instructions ;)

good luck :)  oxox  momttc

I bought a heart moniter at Wal-Mart so I dont know if it is as sensitive as the ones you all have.  I am 21 weeks tomorrow and I am not sure if i have heard it or not.  Sometimes i think i do, others i just dont know.  I plan to take it to my appt. tomorrow to let the nurse help me.

I think it just depends on the person and maybe the way the uterus is shaped. I rented one and found the heartbeat at 8.5 weeks. Which I think it is unusual to find it that early so do not worry if you can't. It did take several trys though. Good luck! Danielle

ok, so I found it for my hubby and we counted.  It was 150 to the best of our counting.  There was a lot going on and we may have been a little off.  I am REALLY leaning toward this baby being a boy :)  Maybe we'll try again this weekend when there are fewer distractions and see if we get a better count.  That little guy is hard to find!

gonza, I used one of those from wal mart and could only hear when the baby would hit the monitor during his nightly laps.  I never heard the heart.  The one i have is just like what the doctor uses.

night girls.  not knowing the sex of this baby is making me crazy.  I wonder why?  maybe because i'm so excited to bond...  not sure but I REALLY want to know what the heck the sex is.    hahah   momttc

I know what you mean about being excited to find out the sex.  It was completely driving me crazy.  When the u/s tech asked whether or not we wanted to know, I yelled "YEAH" I swear, the people in the waiting room probably heard me. LOL.

oh man it's making me crazy.  I swear it's a boy though.  I was just up in the "kids'" bathroom that I've been waiting to decorate until we find out and I'm just going to paint it blue...  I mean there is NOTHING inside telling me that this is a girl?  I'll feel bad if it is...  poor thing, I thought she was a boy!
