concerned about ovulation?

Good morning everyone.. I have a question.  Is it possible for your post ovulation temperatures to be lower than the last months post ovulation temps?  The reason I'm asking, is as I posted a day or so ago, I got a surge on Wednesday morning Dec.1st.. cd13.  I expected to ovulate Thursday sometime and see a temperature rise on Friday.  I have had a sick child and haven't gotten really good sleep the past few days. My basal temperature on Friday morning was 97.5 .  Today(Saturday) it's 97.6 .  Last month post ovulation it went to 97.9.. then 98.. then 98.2 etc..  My pre-ovulation temperatures were lower this month, could it be that my post-ovulation temperatures could just be a little lower too?  I'm pretty sure I'm past ovulation time because my surge is gone and I am dry(no ewcm).  I would appreciate your opinion because we had decided that if I didn't get pregnant this time, that next time we would go for an I.U.I.  I don't want to waste my money if I'm not gonna ovulate. I want to have another baby so much.  I am 42 and I don't have a lot of time.  My OBGYN said after this cycle we should go for the I.U.I.  What do you think?  Did I ovulate and the temps are just slow rising, or I just didn't ovulate?

I think you very well could have ovulated, particularly since you had the LH surge already.  I've charted temps for several months, and sometimes my first few days temps after ovulation are in the mid 97's like you're describing.    I know it is hard, but I think you need to just wait it out.  What you want to look for is a sustained range of higher temps for 10 to 15 days.  If your temps remains in the higher range past that 15th day, you are most likely pregnant.  Your temps may jump again in a few days and begin an even higher range, that is completely normal.  I hope this helps.  You should visit this website and view examples of other women's charts, it's very helpful.  It's the website for the Taking Charge of Your Fertility book, if you haven't read it yet you should really get a copy, it's great information.  Good luck to you.
