Prozac/Hyperthyroidism

Is hyperthyroidism ever a side effect of taking Prozac?

by HFHS MD-JM, Nov 14, 1999 12:00AM
Nancy,

Hyperthyroidism, excessive thyroid activity, has been rarely associated with Prozac as listed in the Physician Desk Reference.  The incidence is less than 1 in 1000.  In general this is not typically the case and often one manifests symptoms of depression as a result of thyroid dysfunction.
